What You Need to Know
High Temperature

According to the World Meteorological Organization, Bangkok is the world's hottest city. Just 14 degrees north of the equator, Bangkok is sunny at all times of the year with temperatures over 30°C (86°F). Be prepared with bottled water, sunscreen and light clothing.

Dress Code in Temples

Thailand is nearly 94 percent Buddhist, Buddhism in Thailand is strongly influenced by traditional beliefs regarding ancestral and natural spirits, which have been incorporated into Buddhist cosmology. BEFORE you go to the temples, bring loose pants or long skirts to cover up your knees and a long shirt or pashmina to cover your shoulders and arms. Besides the "head" is considered as a sacred p art of the body in Thailand and touching the head is considered as being rude to the person.

Respect the King and Royal Family

The Royal Family, and the King in particular, is absolutely adored by the Thai people. Their images are everywhere, from posters plastered on the exterior of buildings to photos displayed on taxi dashbo ards. Be mindful that it's illegal to harm or mock them in any way. The National Anthem is played daily at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in public places, and on radio and TV broadcasts. During the song you'll notice that all Thais stop what they're doing and stand to attention. Do the same if you want to be well-received by your new Thai friends.

Official Language

To avoid any miscommunications in transit, write down the address of your destination before you head out. However, most of the city's top attractions as well as the Skytrain and Metro, have signs in English.
